Chez Franz

I’d heard so many things about Chez Franz (both good and bad experiences), I had to go and see for myself what the fuzz was all about. You’ll find this new eatery in Ixelles, near the cross roads of Chaussée de Charleroi and Chaussée de Waterloo.

I love eating out for breakfast or lunch, but unfortunately my dearly beloved is not a fan of outdoor activities before noon. So, on a sunny Sunday morning, I met the lovely Jane from Best of Brussels for a coffee and some chitchat at Chez Franz.

All the tables on the terrace were taken, but luckily we found some seats on the mini terrace on the pavement. A waiter came round with the menus, which listed a range of yummy-looking breakfast and brunch options. From a hot drink, fresh juice and Danish pastry (6 euro) to all of the aforementioned plus bacon and eggs (12 euro), to a large brunch feast including all of the aforementioned plus a plate of cheese and cold meats, fresh fruit and French toast (18 euro).

Everything on the menu can be ordered separately too, good news for picky eaters like me. I ended up choosing a bowl of fruit salad (which tasted great, but was on the small side for 5 euro) and a coffee. Our orders were served quickly, which is a big plus as you tend to get hungry after reading the menu and seeing your neighbours on the terrace tucking into the brunch treats.

Brunch, by the way, is served on weekends and public holidays, between 10.00-16.00. Perfect for those who like to sleep in, have a hangover, or love breakfast food at any time during the day.

Chez Franz is open until midnight, and is also a perfect place for afternoon coffee (with or without something sweet on the side) or apéro drinks. They mix up cocktails and serve cheese and meat snacks too.

Sunny terrace, friendly service, great coffee. To be visited again!

30 Rue du Haut Pont (corner of Rue Franz Merjay), open every day between 08.00-00.00, on Fridays and Saturdays, between 10.00-01.00.
